Kodi came to us the fall that Bear passed on. Paul was very upset at losing Bear. In a rather underhanded way, our friends and myself went about finding another puppy for him.
I convinced him to just to "look" at a litter (after speaking with the breeder every day for 2 weeks) to figure out what kind of GSD he wanted the following spring.
5 minutes after seeing the litter, Kodi bounced across the room fell into Paul's lap and into his heart. That was that, and Kodi came to us 3 weeks later!
This little fellow was 13 lbs. When we picked him up at 8 weeks old. He's now 6 years old and 105 lbs! Although he's a giant, he's gentle as they come. He's a certified Therapy Dog and has logged more than 50 visits to nursing homes. He's also in our obedience demo's at the South Florida State Fair each year, and kids love him! The give him big hugs, and he returns wet kisses!

One of his favorite toys was a gardening glove.. The same kind used in directed retrieving in Utility. I've learned a valuable lesson -- NOT to let them play with stuff they'll be using to "work". He now shakes the glove all the way back on the retrieve !!!

The only trick we ever taught him -- the "gumball" machine! He hits the bone lever with his foot and treats come out! It only took about 4 tries for him to learn this one! Move over, Lassie!

When my Mom first saw Karna, she was in love and vice-versa. Karna belonged to my best friend, whom had decided that she had too many females in her house, and all were fighting for the alpha position. Poor Karna was getting the worst end of the bargain. My Mom decided that she'd fit nicely into their house, since there were no other dogs at that time. She was 5 when she went to live with my folks, and settled in beautifully.
It was a decision that no one ever regretted. She was an incredible working dog and an ambassador for the breed. She loved people, dogs -- and FOOD. She gained 6 pounds the first month she was with Mom and Dad. They learned not to overfeed her after that!
She stayed beside my Mom, refusing to leave her side during her 6 month battle with cancer. My Mom lost her battle with that disease, and Karna fell to cancer 3 years later. They are together now, and no doubt, Mom's still giving her too many treats!
